Patens

Patens are sacred liturgical vessels used during the celebration of the Eucharist to hold the bread to be consecrated. Typically crafted from precious metals such as gold or silver, patens are designed to rest securely on the chalice and support reverent handling during Mass. In some traditions, the paten may also be referred to as a diskos.

In accordance with the General Instruction of the Roman Missal, patens should be made of noble materials suitable for liturgical use. Gold patens are preferred, while patens made from other metals are commonly gilded on the interior to ensure dignity and durability. Matthew F. Sheehan offers a carefully selected range of Catholic patens, including classic and two-tone designs. Select styles are available with custom engraving, making them meaningful gifts or commemorative keepsakes for clergy, parishes, and special occasions.
