Deacon

A deacon stole is a particular type of garment that is worn by high ranking religious leaders given the title of deacon. The stole is several feet long and 3 to 4 inches wide. Like other stoles, it is meant to be one of the outermost garments depending on the ceremony and dress style of the occasion. However, the design and manner of wearing distinguishes a deacon’s stole from other varieties. A bishop or priest would wear a stole draped around the neck. A deacon wears the stole over the left shoulder and tied cross-wise like a sash across the right side of the waist.
