Altar Server Cinctures

The cincture is a type of liturgical vestment that is worn in a similar manner to a belt. The long rope vestment is worn around the waist and may be crafted in several colors. The color of the cincture typically varies according to the liturgical season. In the Roman Catholic church, colored strands within the item are used to indicate the status of the wearer with gold and green representing a bishop, red and gold for a cardinal or white and gold for the Pope. Clergy cinctures may be tied in several ways. When it is tied in the front with the ends draping on either side, it is known as a Roman knot.
